This Medieval Book of Hours is a masterpiece of chromolithography. All pages are differently and profusely illustrated. The front endleaf carries a label of Bouasse-Lebel, 28, Rue Saint-Sulpice, Paris, the famous publisher of devotional pictures. The Latin maxim under the arms on the boards belongs to the barons of Crousaz, originally in Chexbres (Vaud, Switzerland), but here maybe pertaining to the French branch of them. All coworkers of the book are named: art direction, painting, execution on stone and chromolithography (R. Engelmann, 12, rue de l’Abbaye St. Germain, Paris).

Smooth leather with gilt arms on the covers, spine with 6 raised bands, gilt title and ornaments, gilt edge. Moiré silk liners on both inside covers and moiré silk endleaves (dark-green taffeta).
