Scrapbook for a teacher

310480 Scraps. 84 pp., 64 of which are occupied by pasted greeting cards from her pupils to the teacher Helene H. Stauer for Christmas, New Year and birthday in the period 1877 to 1883. In a cloth binding decorated with blind-stamped ornaments. Watercolor, color lith. and chromolith. 366x270 mm. Circa 1880.
The volume is dedicated to her teacher on the inside front cover by the pupil Frederica Julia Rowley. The peculiarity of our album is that „Frl. Stauer“ apparently worked at an international school, in any case her girls and boys were both German and English speakers and the cards accordingly so (the album itself is English: Hammond General Stationer, 173 Brompton Road, London S.W.). One of the busiest writers was Anna von der Mark, who sends greetings first from Koblenz in 1877, then from Karlsruhe until 1883. Cologne and Hagen are also represented. Among the cards, there is even a (working) pop-up card. Also joined are a pretty watercolor of flowers and 2 ornated letters.
The names in detail: Helene H. Stauer, Frederica Julia Rowley, Helene Elbers, Richard Elbers, Ida Elbers, Hermann Elbers, N. (Nanian?) Crighton, Anna von der Mark, Lina Jung, Louisa Jung, Lady Lyttelton, Miss Drake, Violet B. Hankey, Miss Best, Toni Kaempfer, Bertha, Miss Sutcliffe, Mrs Behnke, Frl. v. Sachsenring?, Sybil Clive, Frl. Kroh, Mrs Le Tenore?

Binding rubbed, book block loose, 2 cards damaged, some staining, otherwise complete.
