Greetings to Emily

310581 VALENTINES Joseph Mansell, London (1830-1902). Double sheet. „I love you sincerely“. The 1st leaf has a lavish decor in embossed die-cut lace (flowers, musical instruments). At the top 2 putti embrace each other, at the bottom is a book whose pages can be turned. Dated by hand at the back „from Charley 1853“. In the original envelope richly decorated with flowers in gilt on both sides. It is addressed to Miss Emily Sherry, Norwalk, CT, it bears a red Norwalk postmark, dated FEB 14, and another postmark „PAID“. Our Emily Sherry may be Emily Augusta Sherry, daughter of Charles Sherry (our „Charley“?) and wife since 1858 of Samuel Lynes (1822-1878), physician and repeated Mayor (Warden) of Norwalk, CT.

Chromolith., partly enhanced with gilt. 95x71 mm. 1853.
The envelope somewhat damaged (tears, a piece in a corner of the flap missing), 2 very tiny marginal tears, some foxing, otherwise very good conservation.
